Tottenham Hotspur may have an opportunity to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen this summer, but this move could depend on the club first selling either Dominic Solanke or Richarlison, according to reports.
The Premier League club has reportedly been presented with the chance to acquire the Super Eagles forward as they continue their search for a proven centre-forward in preparation for the upcoming season. However, Spurs have not yet made a definitive decision on whether to pursue a formal transfer for the 27-year-old.
Financial Considerations for Osimhen Deal
Any potential deal for Osimhen is anticipated to be financially demanding. Beyond the transfer fee, Tottenham would likely need to offload either Solanke or Richarlison to create space within their squad. Additionally, Osimhen’s reported weekly salary of €288,000 after tax could make him the highest-paid player at the club.
Osimhen has maintained his reputation as a prolific striker in Europe since his move from Napoli to Galatasaray in 2024. He initially joined the Turkish champions on a loan deal, which was later made permanent, and has continued to perform consistently in front of goal.
The Nigeria international scored 15 goals and provided five assists last season, despite making only 19 starts in the Turkish Super Lig. This performance has kept him on the radar of several prominent European clubs.
Reports also indicate that Osimhen remains keen to fulfil his ambition of playing in the Premier League during what are considered the peak years of his career. This factor could potentially favour Tottenham in their pursuit.
However, the London club’s need to reduce both their squad size and wage bill before making a move suggests that any pursuit of the Super Eagles star would likely be contingent on the departures of either Solanke or Richarlison.
Osimhen’s European Interest and Previous Offers
Osimhen has been offered to other major European clubs this summer, including Atletico Madrid. According to reports from Spain, the Galatasaray star was interested in a move to the Rojiblancos.
It was reported that agents presented the 27-year-old’s services to the Atletico board for 75 million euros. Osimhen was reportedly willing to accept a pay cut to pursue his ambition of playing at the Wanda Metropolitano.
His current contract with the Turkish club is set to run until the summer of 2029. Osimhen’s salary at Galatasaray is significantly boosted by a tax exemption that Turkey grants to foreign residents during their initial twenty years in the country, which increases his net income.
Osimhen has expressed admiration for Diego Simeone, the coach of Atletico Madrid. He praised the Argentine coach in January after his team played against Atletico in the Champions League, noting Atletico’s attacking style and clear identity.
Despite the interest, Atletico Madrid ultimately rejected the offer, citing a lack of financial liquidity to complete a deal of that magnitude at the present time. Sources close to the club also indicated that Osimhen would occupy a similar tactical role to that currently held by Julian Alvarez, whom the Rojiblancos board has no intention of selling.
Atletico was not the only club to which Osimhen was offered. Reports suggest that agents also approached Barcelona, as well as Arsenal and Tottenham in England.
