Manchester United’s Search for a Left-Back
Manchester United are actively exploring alternative options for the left-back position as the transfer window progresses. While Lewis Hall remains a player of interest, the club acknowledges the need to consider other targets in the coming weeks. Strengthening the left-back role was identified as a key priority for United this summer, following initial efforts to bolster their midfield.
Early in the transfer window, Hall was reportedly the preferred choice for United. He is still highly regarded at Old Trafford, and the England international is understood to be open to a move. However, Newcastle United has maintained a firm stance, showing no indication that they are prepared to sanction his departure from the club.

Key Alternatives Under Consideration
Among the names high on United’s list of alternatives is David Raum of RB Leipzig. Reports from earlier this year indicated that the Germany international is admired by the club. Raum, who is 28-year-old, is considered an attractive option due to his contract situation. He has less than 12 months remaining on his current deal. While a release clause of around £34million is part of his contract, intermediaries believe a deal potentially below £30million could be negotiated if a new contract is not put in place.
It is understood that Raum has previously engaged in discussions with United. Crucially, he would reportedly be receptive to the idea of moving to Old Trafford and competing with Luke Shaw for a place in the squad. His contract situation makes him one of the more interesting options currently under consideration, as United aims to strengthen the squad without being forced into an inflated deal.
Raum is not the only alternative being assessed for the left-back role. Earlier in the recruitment process, Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde was evaluated alongside Hall and Nathaniel Brown. However, persistent injury problems mean that United do not currently view Balde as a realistic proposition for the position.
The club’s recruitment team is also monitoring younger talents. These include Joaquin Seys from Club Brugge, Adrian Truffert of Bournemouth, and Spanish youth star Jorge Salinas from Racing Santander. This indicates a comprehensive approach to identifying potential left-back targets.
