Halima lives with her four children in a camp for displaced people in Gedaref, Sudan. They have faced significant hardships due to ongoing conflict. This year, during Eid al-Adha, they received qurbani meat from humanitarian organizations.
Before this development, Halima’s family struggled to find food. They had not eaten meat for months. The expectation was low; they did not anticipate receiving any food aid this Eid.
The situation changed when Islamic Relief delivered qurbani meat packs. In 2025, over 92,500 people in Sudan benefited from similar distributions. Islamic Relief’s efforts reached more than 3.2 million people across 29 countries.
Kızılay also plays a crucial role in these humanitarian efforts. In 2026, they launched their proxy sacrifice campaign ahead of Eid al-Adha. The fees for proxy sacrifices are TL 17,250 (approximately $382) for donations within Türkiye and Gaza.
In 2025, Kızılay distributed 168,584 shares of qurbani across Türkiye and 25 other countries. Nearly 929,600 people in Gaza received canned meat from Kızılay that same year.
Halima expressed her gratitude: “Eid al-Adha means everything to me.” She noted the joy of receiving food at a time when they expected nothing. Fatma Meriç Yılmaz from Kızılay highlighted the importance of their canned meat program, stating that it allows safe storage for up to two to three years.
Yet challenges remain for displaced families like Halima’s. The ongoing conflict continues to disrupt lives and livelihoods. As Halima said, “We haven’t eaten meat for months; we didn’t expect to get meat this Eid either.” The need for continued humanitarian aid is evident.
