All degree programmes offered by the University of Benin have been fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the first time in many years. This milestone was confirmed in a letter dated April 7, 2026.
The accreditation exercise took place in October and November 2025. It covered all faculties, schools, and centres within the university. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Edoba Omoregie, praised the hard work and commitment of management and staff.
Dr. Benedicta Ehanire noted, “For the first time in many years, all degree programmes offered by the University of Benin have been fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).” This accomplishment reflects a significant turnaround for an institution that struggled with accreditation issues in previous years.
The Vice Chancellor commended various bodies within the university, including the Senate and relevant committees, for their diligence throughout the process. Their efforts contributed to positioning UNIBEN among institutions with strong compliance with national academic standards.
The full accreditation status is valid for five years, extending until 2030. This development not only enhances the university’s reputation but also assures prospective students and parents of quality education.
Yet, challenges remain as institutions strive to maintain high educational standards. The journey to achieve this level of accreditation involved considerable dedication from all stakeholders.
