TotalEnergies and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) launched the 2026 VIA Safe Mobility for Young People programme on May 2, 2026, in Nigeria. This initiative aims to empower students as advocates for road safety through creative expression.

The programme targets 600 students under the age of 18. It will engage participants from 30 public secondary schools across the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos, and Rivers states. The goal is to promote road safety awareness among young people.

The VIA programme has already been implemented in 43 countries, reaching over 924,000 young people globally. Moyosola Areola, a spokesperson for the initiative, stated, “The VIA Safe Mobility for Young People programme goes beyond teaching road safety; it is about empowering young people to understand their environment and take responsibility for safer journeys.”

This initiative comes at a time when TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc reported a pretax profit of N1.9 billion in Q1 2026, marking a significant year-on-year increase of 70.58%. However, revenue declined to N197.1 billion, down from N221.6 billion in Q1 2025.

Additionally, the sale of white products contributed N129.6 billion to TotalEnergies’ revenue in Q1 2026. The company also reported retained earnings of N48.5 billion, up from N47.3 billion in the previous year.

Areola emphasized the importance of equipping students with knowledge and platforms to act on road safety issues. She noted, “By giving students the knowledge and platform to act, we are raising a generation that will champion safer and more inclusive mobility in their communities.” Observers expect this initiative to foster greater awareness about road safety among Nigerian youth.
