The South East Development Commission has launched the South East Venture Capital Program (SEVCP), a significant initiative aimed at improving access to funding for startups in South East Nigeria. This program is part of the broader YEIDEP Batch B 2026 initiative and includes a substantial $50 million venture capital fund.

The SEVCP is designed to strengthen the region’s innovation and small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) ecosystem. Applications for the program have been extended until April 3, 2026, allowing more startups to participate in this opportunity.

As part of the initiative, a pitch competition will culminate in finals scheduled for May 13, 2026. A total of 30 startups will be selected to join the investment pipeline, with each receiving a combined funding amount of $450,000.

The program specifically targets startups that demonstrate strong technology components and proven market traction, reflecting a growing emphasis on innovation within the region. This aligns with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to enhance economic development and technological advancement across Nigeria.

With a startup grant amounting to 500,000 Nigerian Naira, the SEVCP aims to empower emerging businesses and foster a vibrant entrepreneurial landscape in South East Nigeria. The initiative is expected to play a crucial role in supporting local entrepreneurs and stimulating economic growth.

As the application deadline approaches, many observers are keenly watching the developments surrounding this program. The outcomes of the pitch competition and the selection of startups will be pivotal in determining the future landscape of innovation and entrepreneurship in the region.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the specific criteria for startup selection and the process for disbursing funds, but the anticipation surrounding the SEVCP continues to build.

Batch B Registration for YEIDEP Begins

The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to empower up to 20 million youths through the Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalisation Programme (YEIDEP), with Batch B registration commencing on March 9, 2026. This initiative aims to tackle youth unemployment, poverty, and radicalization in the country.

Eligible participants for the program are Nigerians aged between 18 and 50. Registration will be conducted nationwide, with the exception of Kano State, where the process will be supervised by Governor Abba Yusuf.

To participate in Batch B, applicants must open a YEIDEP bank account at designated partner banks, which include Fidelity Bank, Keystone Bank, and others. Opening a YEIDEP bank account is free of charge and mandatory for participation.

Kennedy Iyere, a spokesperson for the program, emphasized the importance of compliance, stating, “We also strictly want to warn against double or multiple registration, as anyone found guilty of such shall be disqualified automatically.”

Individuals who registered under Batch A and have confirmed YEIDEP bank accounts are not eligible for Batch B. The program promotes entrepreneurship and self-employment among young people, aiming to provide them with the necessary start-up capital.

YEIDEP’s core mandate is to address Nigeria’s chronic youth unemployment, youth poverty, and youth hopelessness. The initiative is designed to mitigate the risks of youth frustration, radicalization, and restiveness in Nigeria.

Authorized banks for the registration process include Access Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank, Zenith Bank, United Bank for Africa, Ecobank, and Lotus Bank.

As the registration date approaches, observers are keenly watching how the program will unfold and its potential impact on the youth demographic in Nigeria. Details remain unconfirmed regarding the overall implementation strategy and outreach efforts planned by the government.
