Food inflation has become a pressing issue, climbing to 12.12 percent in February 2026, up from 8.89 percent in January. Fuel costs have also risen significantly, with petrol selling between N1,300 and N1,400 per litre. Over 30 million people in Nigeria face acute food insecurity.

Nigeria carries the world’s second-highest burden of stunted children, with 32 percent of under-fives affected. These statistics underscore the harsh realities facing workers as they advocate for their rights and better economic opportunities.
