Gregor Buchanan scored for Stenhousemuir just before half time, giving his team a one-goal lead. However, Reece Lyon found the back of the net for Queen of the South in injury time, leveling the score at 1-1.

The second leg will be hosted by Stenhousemuir at Ochilview Park on Saturday afternoon at 3pm. The winner will face either Alloa Athletic or Airdrieonians for a spot in next season’s second tier.

Stenhousemuir finished the regular season in second place, just two points behind Inverness Caley Thistle. They had a difficult start but managed to secure an important draw.

Yet, it looked like they would head home with a win until they couldn’t hold on in the final moments. Former Falkirk winger Kai Kennedy played a crucial role in setting up the opportunity for Lyon’s late goal.

The stakes are high as both teams aim for promotion. The matches for the final will take place on May 13 and May 16.
