The event celebrated the Costume Institute’s exhibition featuring approximately 400 works from the Met’s collections. The new Condé M. Nast Galleries span nearly 12,000 square feet, providing ample space for this artistic endeavor.

Co-chairs of the event included Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, Anna Wintour, and Beyoncé. This marked Beyoncé’s return to the gala after a 10-year hiatus, making her appearance highly anticipated.

Attendees embraced the theme with stunning ensembles. Rihanna wore a custom John Galliano creation for Maison Margiela. Emma Chamberlain opted for a hand-painted Mugler gown, while Kylie Jenner donned a deconstructed nude Schiaparelli gown.

Other notable outfits included Rachel Zegler’s gown inspired by ‘The Execution of Lady Jane Grey’ and Gracie Abrams’ gold Chanel gown influenced by Gustav Klimt’s artwork. Ben Platt’s suit drew inspiration from Georges Seurat’s ‘A Sunday on La Grande Jatte.’

Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute, emphasized the importance of body representation in art and fashion. He stated, “The dressed body is front and center in every gallery you come across. Even the nude is never naked.”

Bolton further explained that the goal was to reintegrate the body into discussions about art and fashion. He noted that this approach elevates fashion to an art form.

The Met Gala continues to be a significant annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, drawing attention from around the world.
