NiMet received ₦9.82 billion for operations in 2025, which included funding for climate information dissemination. However, the agency acknowledged that it does not communicate directly with farmers, instead relying on extension agents to relay information. This has raised concerns among farmers about the effectiveness of the communication channels.

Ibrahim Abubakar, a local farmer, emphasized the need for NiMet to establish direct contact with farmers’ leaders, stating, “NiMet should establish synergy with farmers’ leaders for direct contact.” In response to these concerns, James Adamu, another farmer, mentioned ongoing efforts to design a project that would enable farmers to receive SMS updates based on their location.
