Ahmad Lawan, a prominent political figure, is currently considering a bid for the governorship of Yobe State in 2027. His potential candidacy has gained momentum following a recent fundraising initiative organized by the Coalition of Yobe-East Progressive Youths, which successfully raised N188 million to support his aspirations.

The fundraising event took place in Damaturu, Yobe State, and attracted a diverse group of participants, including youths, community leaders, and various stakeholders. Contributions to the campaign ranged from N100 to N3,000, showcasing grassroots support from ordinary citizens, including widows and students.

Lawan has not yet made a formal declaration to contest for the governorship race; however, he expressed a willingness to respond to the call to serve the people of Yobe State. During the event, he thanked the Coalition for their efforts and emphasized the significance of the funds raised.

“That, to me, is the true definition of grassroots participation and community ownership,” Lawan stated, highlighting the importance of civic engagement in the political process. He further remarked, “You have not only raised funds for forms; you have redefined what it means to be progressive citizens of Yobe State.”

The funds were collected through pledges, bank transfers, and cash donations, all directed to a designated bank account established for this purpose. Lawan described the fundraising as a reflection of grassroots participation and community ownership, reinforcing his commitment to the people.

He noted, “The gesture reflects a shared commitment to building an open and accountable government in the state.” Lawan’s ambition appears to be driven by a desire to respond to the aspirations of the people of Yobe State, as he stated, “My desire to serve is to answer the call of our people. May Allah continue to direct and guide us in this endeavour. Amin.”

The fundraising initiative is seen as a collective investment in governance in Yobe State, aiming to encourage civic engagement and inclusive participation among youth and other stakeholders. Observers are keenly watching how Lawan’s political journey unfolds as the 2027 elections approach.
