Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo has resigned as Deputy Governor of Kano State, with the resignation taking effect on March 27, 2026. This decision comes amid an impeachment plot against him by the Kano State House of Assembly.
In a letter addressed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Gwarzo stated, “I have taken this step in the spirit of responsibility and statesmanship, to allow the government and the state to move forward without undue distractions.” He emphasized that his resignation should not be interpreted as an admission of guilt, declaring, “This resignation is made voluntarily and should not be construed as an admission of any wrongdoing, but a decision in the interest of public service.”
The Kwankwasiyya Movement, which Gwarzo is associated with, described the resignation as a necessary decision for the stability of governance in Kano State. They stated, “This decision, though difficult, has been taken in the overall interest of the people and the stability of governance in Kano State.”
Gwarzo expressed gratitude to the people of Kano State and key stakeholders for their support during his tenure. His resignation is expected to trigger political consultations regarding his replacement.
