Sir Jim Ratcliffe is exploring options for Manchester United’s next permanent manager while also attempting to reward Michael Carrick with a high-profile signing. He has indicated that he will have the final say on whether Carrick becomes the head coach.
Ratcliffe, who co-owns Manchester United, is keen to bring Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde to Old Trafford. This move aligns with his goal to invest significantly in the team. Manchester United plans to spend £150 million on three new midfielders this summer.
The club has identified Joel Ordonez, Mateus Fernandes, and Lewis Hall as their first three signings ahead of the summer transfer window. These decisions come after Carrick’s successful interim period, where he achieved eight wins, two draws, and two defeats in twelve matches.
Yet, Ratcliffe’s focus is not solely on player acquisitions. He has also been involved in managing his other club, Nice, which has struggled under multiple managers since INEOS purchased it. Nice has had seven different permanent managers during this period.
In an effort to streamline operations at Nice, Ratcliffe has reduced the asking price for the club significantly after failing to attract interest from potential buyers. He expressed dissatisfaction with the current level of football at Nice, stating he does not find it exciting enough.
As for Manchester United’s future, Carrick remains optimistic about his role and the potential changes coming with a new coach. The situation at both clubs illustrates Ratcliffe’s dual focus on management and strategic player investments.
With 31 points on the board, Nice currently sits in 15th place in Ligue 1. The team continues to seek improvement as they navigate through a challenging season.
