The Dangote Refinery has raised its ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit to ₦1,350 per litre. This marks the 12th adjustment in five months, reflecting ongoing volatility in Nigeria’s fuel market.

A senior official of the refinery stated, “The new pricing template has been activated across the board.” The latest increase is a N75 rise from the previous price of ₦1,275 per litre. This is the second N75 increase within seven days.

The refinery has adjusted petrol prices multiple times within the past month. The adjustments relate to sustained pressure in the global oil market and recent supply chain adjustments. The price increase reflects prevailing supply and cost pressures in the system.

Key facts:

The increase is expected to lead to higher pump prices across Nigeria.

This adjustment follows a short-term supply squeeze created by the suspension of PFI.

Industry operators noted that the latest hike is expected to feed directly into pump prices in the coming days.

The refinery’s frequent price changes highlight the challenges faced by Nigeria’s fuel market. Officials have not provided a timeline for stabilization. The current situation continues to affect consumers and businesses alike.

Access Holdings Plc has paused dividend payments while focusing on operational efficiency. Despite reporting gross earnings of N5.53 trillion and a profit before tax exceeding N1 trillion for 2025, the company has shifted its priorities.

The decision stems from a strategic move towards enhancing operational effectiveness. Innocent C. Ike, CEO of Access Holdings Plc, emphasized that “efficiency is now a core driver of value.” He stated, “Our goal is not to reduce scale, but to sharpen it.” This approach aligns with the company’s commitment to corporate governance and long-term growth.

In contrast, other companies in the Nigerian Exchange are proceeding with dividend distributions. For instance:

MTN Nigeria Plc and Okomu Oil Palm Plc propose a final dividend of N15 per share each.

Seplat Energy Plc is paying about N12.60 per share for Q1 2026.

BUA Cement has proposed a N10 per share dividend.

Zenith Bank is distributing a final dividend of N8.75 per share.

The Initiates Plc also approved a total dividend payment of N266.99 million, representing 30 kobo per share for shareholders registered as of April 7th, 2026. This payment is subject to applicable taxes and reflects shareholder approval during the company’s recent Annual General Meeting.

While Access Holdings focuses on internal improvements, it remains uncertain how this decision will impact shareholder sentiment in the long run. The market will be watching closely as other firms continue their profit distributions amid Access’s strategic pause.

Predictions indicate that the 2027 Social Security COLA could be higher than in previous years, driven by inflation and energy prices.

The post 2027 social security cola appeared first on Toprecruitment.

Predictions for the 2027 Social Security COLA suggest it could be significantly higher than previous years due to rising inflation driven by energy prices. The Senior Citizens League projects a 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for Social Security in 2027, while the Congressional Budget Office forecasts a slightly higher 3.1% increase.

Key projections:

The Senior Citizens League predicts a 2.8% COLA for 2027.

The Congressional Budget Office forecasts a 3.1% COLA for the same year.

Mary Johnson predicts a 3.2% COLA based on recent CPI data.

Inflation has surged, especially in March 2026, due to soaring energy prices linked to the ongoing Iran conflict. This spike in inflation affects the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W), which is used to calculate the COLA. The official COLA will be announced in October 2026 after third-quarter data is collected.

Impact on benefits:

A 2.8% COLA would mean an extra $58 per month for the average retired worker. and A 3.1% COLA would result in an additional $79 per month for the same demographic.

However, experts warn that high COLAs may not always benefit retirees. A large Social Security COLA isn’t necessarily good news, as it may indicate underlying economic issues. “The prospect of a sizable pay increase probably seems appealing, but high COLAs tend to be bad news in disguise,” said one analyst.

The increase in Medicare Part B premiums also factors into retirement planning. For instance, the premium increased from $185 to $202.90 in 2026, impacting overall benefit calculations.

The final COLA percentage for 2027 remains uncertain and will depend on inflation data collected during the summer of 2026. The formula for determining this year’s adjustment follows established guidelines using CPI-W readings from that period.

Moniepoint's CEO, Tosin Eniolorunda, discusses the talent shortage impacting the company’s ability to fill 500 job vacancies in Nigeria.

The post Moniepoint Faces Talent Shortage in Nigeria appeared first on Toprecruitment.

Moniepoint’s CEO, Tosin Eniolorunda, has raised alarms about a critical shortage of qualified talent in Nigeria. This shortage is hindering the company’s ability to fill 500 job openings.

On May 1, 2026, Eniolorunda stated that Moniepoint will prioritize hiring locally. The company aims to source talent within Nigeria despite facing challenges. He noted that many available candidates do not meet Moniepoint’s global standards.

Eniolorunda attributes this talent gap to significant weaknesses in Nigeria’s education system and shifting social values. He expressed concern over the migration of skilled professionals, commonly referred to as “japa,” which has left a void in the local workforce.

The situation is compounded by societal pressures that encourage quick financial gains. According to Eniolorunda, “In a country of over 200 million people, there are many alternatives to becoming a ‘big boy’ or chasing quick money.” This environment discourages commitment to long-term career development.

The issue extends beyond just Moniepoint. Other companies also struggle with similar challenges in securing qualified talent. Eniolorunda remarked, “Not only could we not find people at the quality and the quantity we needed, the few people that we found were not up to the global standards that we need.” This reflects a broader trend affecting various sectors in Nigeria.

In an unrelated incident, Uchenna Akpa mistakenly transferred N1.67 million to a Moniepoint account on September 7, 2024. The transfer was reversed on April 13, 2026—19 months later—highlighting potential issues within financial systems as well.

The challenges faced by Moniepoint underscore the urgent need for improved human capital development in Nigeria. As companies grapple with filling job vacancies, the implications for economic growth and stability become increasingly significant.

The surge in TAG price coincides with geopolitical shifts, raising questions about the future of dollar-denominated oil trade and the role of cryptocurrencies like XRP. On May 4, 2026, TAG saw a remarkable increase of 350% after breaking its long-term trading range.

Open Interest in TAG jumped from $14 million to $40 million during this period. The critical support levels for TAG are now at $0.0014673 and $0.0011840. Analysts note that these levels will be crucial for sustaining the current price momentum.

Bitcoin is also experiencing notable activity. Its price currently hovers around $79,000, having reclaimed the $76K–$77K zone as support. This resurgence in Bitcoin’s price adds to the overall optimism in the cryptocurrency market.

Iran has begun charging tolls for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz in cryptocurrency, further illustrating the evolving landscape of financial transactions amid geopolitical tensions. The specific cryptocurrency demanded by Iran remains unnamed.

XRP’s technology allows for rapid transaction settlements—approximately three seconds at a fraction of a cent. This efficiency positions XRP favorably against traditional systems, particularly as central bank digital currencies gain traction globally.

The dynamics surrounding TAG and XRP highlight broader trends in financial sovereignty and geopolitical risk. Nations are increasingly aware of how reserve currencies can serve as tools for geopolitical leverage.

Key facts:

TAG price surged 350% after breaking long-term range

Open Interest jumped from $14 million to $40 million

XRP ledger settles transactions in approximately three seconds at a fraction of a cent

Iran charges tolls to pass through the Strait of Hormuz in cryptocurrency

The implications of these developments are significant for investors and policymakers alike. Monitoring TAG’s ability to maintain its position above critical support levels will be essential in the coming days.

“I was receiving debit alerts from my Wema Bank account,” said Isa Aremu Lawal. The Lagos resident reported a loss of N25 million from his bank account due to unauthorised debits on May 2, 2026.

The unauthorised debits occurred while Lawal was travelling to Akure. He noticed the withdrawals happening in quick succession without any request for a one-time password (OTP). The last transaction he made was at a filling station before the funds were sent to an account named ‘Gumel Provision Store’.

Key facts:

N25 million deducted from Isa Aremu Lawal’s Wema Bank account without authorisation.

The first tranche of unauthorised debit was N4.5 million.

The second tranche of unauthorised debit was N4.2 million.

Wema Bank is currently celebrating its 81st anniversary. The bank is launching the fifth season of its ‘5 for 5’ reward initiative during this celebration. Moruf Oseni, a spokesperson for the bank, stated, “The world is rapidly evolving. Digital evolution and emerging technologies continue to present newer opportunities and realities.” He added that Wema Bank aims to support various customer segments with tailored opportunities and strategic guidance.

However, uncertainties remain regarding the identity and location of Gumel Provision Store. Officials have not confirmed how the unauthorised access occurred in Lawal’s account.

This incident raises significant questions about financial security in digital banking. As more customers rely on online banking services, incidents like this highlight the need for robust security measures.

“I was receiving debit alerts from my Wema Bank account,” said Isa Aremu Lawal, a Lagos resident who lost N25 million within minutes due to unauthorised debits. The funds were sent to an account named ‘Gumel Provision Store’. The debits occurred in quick succession without any OTP request.

The last transaction made by Lawal was at a filling station. He stated, “This money is not mine. They sent it to me for a project that I am working on in Ekiti.” This incident raises serious concerns about Wema Bank’s financial security measures.

Wema Bank celebrated its 81st anniversary on May 2, 2026. The anniversary theme was “Your Future of Possibilities, Powered by Wema Bank.” During the celebration, the bank launched the 5th Season of the ‘5 for 5’ Reward Initiative.

Moruf Oseni, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank, emphasized their commitment to enhancing customer safety: “We are building a smarter and more secure financial future for our customers.” Yet, the identity of the person or entity behind the unauthorised transactions remains unclear.

Officials have not confirmed what measures Wema Bank will take to address these unauthorised debits. The situation has prompted discussions about customer support and digital banking security protocols.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has started selling aviation fuel at N1,820 per litre as of May 3, 2026. This move aims to stabilize the market amidst soaring prices for Nigerian airlines.

The refinery supplies over 90 percent of Nigeria’s aviation fuel needs. Before the Iran crisis, the price of Jet A-1 was about N900 per litre. Currently, prices range from N2,700 to N2,900 per litre.

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) recommended that aviation fuel prices should be between N1,760 and N1,988 per litre in Lagos. However, actual market prices may fluctuate due to external factors.

In a recent statement, an unnamed source confirmed the price: “Yes, as of today, Sunday, our jet fuel is N1,820 a litre. Note that this price is not stable.” The price of Jet A-1 has risen significantly from about N900 per litre as of February 28 to N3,300 per litre today.

Additionally, Dangote has commenced direct Jet A-1 supply to Ethiopian Airlines. The company plans to publish aviation fuel prices daily for transparency.

Abimbola Olashore of the Airline Operators of Nigeria stated, “We don’t want the airline industry to go under. So, we must find ways.” Meanwhile, George Ene-Ita noted that Dangote’s pricing strategy aims to ease overhead cost pressures in the aviation sector.

Market volatility has been exacerbated by geopolitical tensions affecting oil prices. The ongoing situation has led to fluctuations in fuel costs that impact Nigerian airlines significantly.
