The Police Command in Plateau State confirmed the arrest of a suspect following a midnight attack in Heipang community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, on April 6, 2026. The attack resulted in the death of three local vigilantes who were on night watch in Pwomol Village, Heipang District. One resident sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving medical attention.
This incident marks the second attack on the community within one week, raising concerns about security in the region. Authorities reported that the attack occurred just 72 hours after President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the area, prompting discussions about the effectiveness of security measures in place.
In a separate case, the Ondo State Police Command arrested a 23-year-old man, Emmanuel Usman, for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl. The victim reported the case on March 29, stating that Usman threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident. The suspect is currently in custody and has made a useful statement to aid the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State has directed that the case be handled with utmost diligence and sensitivity. The victim received necessary medical care at the General Hospital, Owo, highlighting the importance of support for victims of such crimes.
DSP Abayomi Jimoh emphasized the command’s commitment to combating all forms of sexual and gender-based violence across the state, reiterating the need for community cooperation in reporting incidents.
