The All Progressives Congress (APC) is preparing for its 2026 National Convention, which will convene delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The event, themed ‘Unity in Progress – Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,’ aims to strengthen democratic values and internal governance within the party.
A 42-member Aspirants’ Screening Committee, chaired by Biodun Oyebanji, has been established to oversee the nomination process for leadership positions. This committee is crucial in ensuring that the convention runs smoothly and effectively.
Idris further remarked, “This gathering will showcase our commitment to democratic ideals, organisational discipline, and inclusive decision-making.” The convention is expected to address leadership elections, policy engagement, and strategic direction-setting for the party.
However, some controversies have arisen. Aminu Masari mentioned that certain aspirants were denied access to nomination forms to prevent destabilization within the party, stating, “We suspect these kinds of people may be agents interested in destabilizing our party.”
The APC has evolved into a resilient political platform, anchored on progressive ideals and national cohesion, having weathered multiple electoral cycles and complex national challenges.
