Adebayo Adelabu is pursuing his governorship ambition in Oyo State with President Bola Tinubu’s backing. He rejected claims that Sharafadeen Alli is the consensus candidate for the APC.
The APC leaders in Oyo had previously endorsed Alli during a meeting in Ibadan. However, Adelabu insists that no official endorsement has been made for any candidate.
Adelabu met with Tinubu in a closed-door session to discuss his political aspirations. He stated, “They are telling lies” regarding the supposed endorsement of another candidate.
He emphasized his long-standing ambition and claimed, “I am the only true ‘son of Asiwaju’ in Oyo State.” This assertion reinforces his position as a key player in Oyo State politics.
Adelabu also revealed that he delayed his resignation as Minister to meet with the President before advancing his political goals. He stated that he cannot publicly lie against the President.
Former Senator Ayo Adeseun commented on the situation, asserting that the President’s opinion should guide the party’s choice in Oyo State. This highlights the weight of Tinubu’s influence within the APC.
If a consensus fails, Adelabu mentioned that the party would resort to direct primaries. He warned against misinformation regarding the President’s stance on endorsements.
